About
Rachael Davey is a freelance writer and photographer, a teacher and a traveller. Born in England and raised in Ireland, she currently calls Bhutan home. She loves the high Himalayan silences of this landlocked kingdom, but is sometimes beset by sea-longings, having once lived in earshot of the Atlantic.
She is fascinated by traditional arts, wild landscapes, and and situations that shake up her complacencies and push her towards new understandings. Ever since a first, solo trip to India as a teenager in the 80s, Rachael has been striving to understand how cultures shape our realities.
Recent writings and photographs on Bhutan have appeared in the Guardian Weekly, Bhutan Today, Tashi Delek (Bhutan’s airline magazine), Ceramic Review and Lonely Planet Magazine.
Forthcoming travel plans include a visit to Kolkata’s idol makers, on commission for Ceramic Review, and six weeks on the gale-shredded island of Islay, off Scotland’s coast, to reacquaint with the ocean.
